Commitment

For some reason, commitment has become a not so pleasant word in our culture. We find it hard to commit to anything long term. Marriages, jobs, relationships, homes, favorite restaurants, churches, etc. have all suffered from a cultural shift in our understanding of commitment.

Most disturbing to me, is the shift in my own life of the things to which I am most committed. I can blame it on life situations, children, the busyness of being a church planter/pastor, but in the end I’ve got to be honest with myself. My priorities and commitments have shifted because I have allowed them to shift. And no mater what my intentions might be, the truth is I have not lived out the right set of commitments.

That’s why I meet with a couple of guys weekly. We are holding each other accountable to living out the right set of commitments. We are seeking to be committed to growing as disciples, being better husbands, fathers & men, and being more committed to the people and the ministry of the grove as we seek to know Jesus better and make Him more evident in our words and actions. It’s not easy, but commitments never are!

One Response to “Commitment”

  1. Jeremy says:

I meet with a group for the same reasons To keep myself planted in good soil. If we are not alert our attentions can shift us from the good soil to one of the other 3 (Read mark 4 )
We however are all called to be farmers spreading the seed . Is your farming by a reputable farmer (YOU)who’s seed that God planted in You through another farmer planted in the good soil that produces 30 60 or 100 beyond that which was planted? This is a daily commitment sometimes hourly.

    Anyway
